iTunes Gift Card Scams

There are a number of scams taking place asking people to make payments over the phone for things such as taxes, bail money, collection of debts etc. In many cases the scammer requests payment via a gift card and in many cases an iTune Gift Card.

The victim of the fraud will receive an urgent call that payment for a debt etc. must be made immediately and that payment must be made using iTune Gift Cards. After the cards have been purchased, the victim pays the "outstanding debt" by sharing the 16-digit code on the back of the card with the fraudster via phone, email or text message.

iTunes Gift Cards can be used ONLY to purchase goods and services on the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or for an Apple Music membership. If you are asked to use iTunes Gift Cards for paying for something other than on the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store or Apple Music membership you are very likely being targeted by someone who is running a scam.
